What I’m Lovin’ in August

Read on to see what I’ve been lovin’ this month!

 1. Zero Waste Goals

I’ve said it before & it’s still true: my family will never be at zero waste. However, we still regularly look for ways to reduce our landfill contribution. These tips are really great!

An important part of zero waste is using what you already have instead of being lured by the siren song of something new.

 2. Good Credit

Part of adulting is learning what “credit” is and how you can work to raise your score/keep it high. ICYMI, Equifax experienced a data breach. Find out if you were impacted HERE where you can easily file a claim (free credit monitoring or $125 if you already have it).

Slate says you have a moral obligation to file your claim – the article makes a good point. Claims have been higher than expected so the cash payout sounds shaky.

 3. Cool Treats (because RN it’s hot AF)

I’ve never made freezer pops, but these Tangerine Hibiscus pops sound easy & have me thinking of other combinations to try!

 4. Slips

Who knew an article about the history of undergarments could be so entertaining!

It also convinced me that I should be wearing slips more. I made April Rhodes’ Simple Slip once & loved it!

 5. My Name if I Were Born Today: Melody

I had way too much fun with this quiz to Find Out What Your Name Would Be if You Were Born Today. What would yours be?!

 6. Bralettes

I recently heard the phrase “free-range boobs” and realized that’s what I’ve been unintentionally practicing.

Two of my favorite bralettes lately:

  1. Comfortable and fancy with a surprising amount of support.
  2. Like wearing a sports bra without the boob suffocation* (and there’s a back hook so if band fitting is a concern, this is the one for you!).

 7. “Not Doing Shit About It” is a Viable Parenting Technique

This post was so raw…and so perfect.

I think sometimes we just have to sit down, look around, and love – because from there, the way becomes clearer, and maybe we remember we have what we need, and always have, to parent the children who were meant to be ours.

 8. Spreading Kindness

If recent events have you feeling hopeless, pick something from this list of 22 Acts of Kindness to do today!

A post popped up in my Facebook memories of something I shared 3 years ago and I loved reading it again. So, for more inspiration, read this!

 9. Indoor Plants

If your plants live indoors, they’re like pets (remember Fred?!)! Air-purifying-pretty-little-plant-pets are my favorite. This 4-pack of clean air foliage* is on my wish list (I just discovered you can order plants with Amazon Prime which feels like a very dangerous discovery).

 10. Little Free Libraries

I have been desperately wanting a Little Free Library in my yard. The ReFashionista just created her own with an old newspaper stand and I’m trying to track down one for myself now.

 11. These Tips on How to be a Working Mama

Reading this post from Suzy Quilts put a lump in my throat. Being a working parent is bittersweet.

My favorites from her list: #3, #6, #13, #44, and #50. ❤

 12. Crafting to increase focus

Do you have a hard time sitting still? Me too. This article, The day I brought my knitting to the boardroom, is a pretty convincing argument for crafting your way through meetings.

 13. Improving my listening skills

love hearing people’s stories! Sometimes I feel a little like an investigative reporter when I meet someone new and interesting (a weird confession from an introvert, but my curiosity is strong!). This video on how to become a better communicator had some really great tips in it.

 14. SC as a Travel Destination

Our state, and more specifically – our sweet city!, doesn’t get enough hype when it comes to awesome travel destinations. I loved running across this guide on How to Eat and Hike Your Way Through a Week in South Carolina.

PS: If you are looking to plan a trip, I’ve got a friend who can help with that 😉

Thank you for reading along & being a part of my community. ❤

My name is Jordan. I'm a full-time working mom whose coffee cup is always half full (and probably still in the microwave). I've got a weak spot for rescuing old dogs, pretending pizza is a vegetable, negotiating dessert with every meal, propagating more plants than any home needs, dreaming of sewing projects while my husband is talking to me, and loving my tribe too deep.

  1. Oh my goodness I had so much fun with the whole name thing! I did mine and my family’s. My name today would be Ella. Haha
And I see the need for slips but I honestly hate wearing them
