What I’m Lovin’ in May

As events unfolded last week in Uvalde, I couldn’t bring myself to post the usual list of things I’ve been “lovin'” because we are very clearly in a shared state of shock and mourning. I’m still in this state with sprinklings of rage, anger, deep sadness, grief, and a fierce motivation to fight for the reforms we need and lives we deserve to live.

I don’t have anything inspirational to tell you (although I did share a little of my emotions on Instagram), but I hope this brain dump of light-hearted things I’ve found on the internet allows you to escape the world’s heavy feelings to find a sliver of sunshine for just a few moments today. ❤

 1. Normalizing periods

Kudos to Golfer Lydia Ko for acknowledging period pain as the reason her physical therapist provided treatment for a tight back during a recent championship.

 2. This gorgeous ombre puff quilt

It looks so cozy and there’s a FREE tutorial (with a video). This modern twist on a traditional style was inspired by a puff quilt Brittany’s grandmother made for her!

3. Costco

My sister recently got a membership to Costco and it’s becoming our favorite meeting spot after work. If you have a membership, you will want to review these secret perks!

4. This photographer taking glam shots of black dogs & cats

I have a soft spot for black dogs. Jeremy & I have had 3 over the years. We adopted the second dog because the shelter was having a sale on black dogs (for real) – she was five years old, microchipped, already spayed, and only $25! Their sale came with education: black shelter pets are less likely to be adopted (hence the sale). This initiative is so worth the publicity it got!

5. How sewing fosters Body Positivity

I always love seeing garment sewing getting attention in the mainstream. The author of this article shared what she learned when she decided to sew her own bathing suit after struggling to find the right one in a ready-to-wear shop. She did a beautiful job capturing why many of us sew our own clothes.

Sewing Patterns I’m Lovin’ Right Now:

Straight Stitch Designs: Qualicum Jumpsuit

I was lucky enough to be a tester for this amazing jumpsuit pattern! It’s on sale right now so snag yourself a copy ASAP.

Versions I’m lovin’:

  • MINE!! I made version C (short bottom, sleeved top) with a thrifted curtain that I dyed green. I plan to share pictures as soon as I can (promise!), but trust me: It’s amazing.
  • All of Kimberly’s versions – she models a version of each of the views in this post!

Podcast Episodes I’m Lovin’ Right Now:

How I Built This with Guy Raz: HIBT Lab! Stolen Focus: Johann Hari

[open in iTunes]

  • Focus is something I struggle with. It was comforting (and maybe a little concerning) to learn that the human race is in the midst of an attention crisis so at least I’m not alone. 😉

Thank you for reading along & being a part of my community. ❤

My name is Jordan. I'm a full-time working mom whose coffee cup is always half full (and probably still in the microwave). I've got a weak spot for rescuing old dogs, pretending pizza is a vegetable, negotiating dessert with every meal, propagating more plants than any home needs, dreaming of sewing projects while my husband is talking to me, and loving my tribe too deep.
