What I’m Lovin’ in May

 1. Remembering the importance of supporting Small Businesses

As we continue practicing social distancing, I keep thinking about all of the small businesses who are hugely impacted.

This salon owner’s account of what the reopening of her state means for her is so powerful. Give it a read.

2. The Right Way to Wear Protective Gloves

This Nurse’s demonstration of how quickly germs can spread even while wearing gloves is hard to forget! So informative.

 3. Sweets

Yep, still stress eating sweets! Per my sister’s recommendation, I made this banana bread recipe & it was DELICIOUS!

4. Finding new ways to lower waste

Despite what you may think, quarantine is a great time to try some new zero waste ideas—like these!

 5. Flossing

I had to postpone my dental appointment for this month so you bet I’m flossing! The dental hygienist in this interview gives a really great explanation of how we should be flossing.

 6. A Reminder to Listen Deeply

It’s a tough world we’re living in right now. Below is a quote from a recent newsletter from Emily McDowell that helped remind me of the importance of listening’s role when comforting others.

Trying to “relate” by bringing up something that happened to you, or a story you’ve heard, can keep you from hearing how the person is actually feeling about their situation. Asking about symptoms of an illness (even if you’re really, really curious) takes the focus off the grieving person and onto your needs. And unbridled optimism can feel like an empty platitude, with the person ending up feeling like you don’t actually want to hear how they feel.

Emily shared a related blog post called Supporting Someone in a Hard Time: What to Say When Your Main Role Is to Listen that is a must-read! ❤

7. Not loving, but perhaps it’s relatable: Weighing whether my anxiety can handle a return to previously “normal” activities

Slate surveyed 6,000 people on what activities they are comfortable resuming right now. The results were interesting.

 8. Podcasts

I’m listening to a lot of podcasts lately. I’m planning to check out a few from this list of motivational podcasts soon!

 9. Meditation

We could all use a little meditation – especially right now. My friend, Shanika, has a 5-minute meditation available through her podcast, Self-Created. I have been doing it almost every morning and it’s the perfect way to start the day.

Thank you for reading along & being a part of my community. ❤

My name is Jordan. I'm a full-time working mom whose coffee cup is always half full (and probably still in the microwave). I've got a weak spot for rescuing old dogs, pretending pizza is a vegetable, negotiating dessert with every meal, propagating more plants than any home needs, dreaming of sewing projects while my husband is talking to me, and loving my tribe too deep.
